IBM Tivoli Security Compliance Manager (TSCM) uses 'collectors' to pull local machine settings dealing with security policy (i.e. patch level, AV signature level, password expiration setting, etc., etc.). These collectors are Java code and are used by an agent (the agent decides based on policy which collectors to download and run). The agent ultimately sends the data up to the server where the data is stored in a DB and reports may be run.
